February 12, 2024

On Tuesday evening February 6, 2024 the firefighters of Amity Fire Company Station 49 participated in the Railroad 101 Safety Training Course presented by a representative from Norfolk Southern Railroad at the Amity Fire Company fire station.

The classroom session starts with an introduction to Railroad Safety and builds on basic concepts of protection of the responder while operating in the railroad right of way.
The program expands the knowledge of the attendee so that there is a clear understanding of railroad terminology, railroad response and actions and assists the responder in identifying types of equipment. Additionally, the program covered the railroads paperwork and the tools available to responders that will assist during an incident.

Featured topics included:
• Safety On Railroad Property
• Rail Equipment Identification
• Rail Tank Cars
• Incident Response Procedures
• Working with Railroad Officials
• AskRail Mobile App
• Railroad Crossing Locator Mobile App
• Rail Shipping Documents

The firefighters of Amity Fire Company Station 49 are grateful to Norfolk Southern and Transcaer for making this training available to keep our First Responders safe while protecting the community in the event of a railway incident.
